Recovering from addictions such as alcohol and drugs can be difficult during the holiday season.  But there are steps you can take to get through it successfully.

Recovery experts say you don't have to isolate yourself during Christmas or New Year's, they actually recommend the opposite.

Outpatient coordinator, Raymond Dalton, from Dawn Farm Youth and Family Services, says most people are willing to accommodate recovering addicts.  For example, you can ask family and friends to not consume alcohol or use drugs while you attend their party for a couple of hours.  Once you leave, they can resume their normal activities.

Dawn Farm will host a public New Year's Eve party for those in recovery and their family.
