Governor Rick Snyder and Flint Mayor Karen Weaver are set to meet on Thursday to discuss the city’s water emergency.
The meeting comes two days after Snyder declared a state of emergency in Genesee County, due to high lead levels in tap water. That move could lead to a request for federal aid for Flint and its water system, which could be a topic of discussion at the meeting.
Snyder said he planned to meet with Flint’s mayor shortly after receiving early findings from his appointed task force probing the situation. That task force laid much of the blame for elevated lead levels on the Snyder Administration – specifically the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ). The head of the department and its spokesperson resigned last week.
The governor has said he also plans to talk with Weaver about other ways the state can help.
