Two former state lawmakers face felony charges that they lied and abused their offices.  Ex-representatives Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat could go to prison if they’re convicted.

The charges against Courser include two counts of lying to the legislative committee looking into the allegations of abusing their offices and two counts of official misconduct.  Gamrat faces two counts of misconduct.

Courser and Gamrat were forced out of office last year in the wake of a messy sex-and-cover-up scandal.  Michigan Attorney General BillSchuette filed the charges in Ingham County Circuit Court

“We are demonstrating that no one, no one is beyond the reach of the law. Not even those who make the laws.”

Courser could not be immediately reached.  Gamrat’s attorney says she will fight the charges.
