The Legislature returns to Lansing this week following a two-week spring break. Big issues facing lawmakers include the Flint water crisis and a Detroit Public Schools bailout.
The House Republican leader says the indictments of a dozen Detroit school administrators on corruption charges raises the bar for a financial bailout of the broke district. Governor Rick Snyder says that’s a reality that will have to be dealt with.
“Well I think it makes it more challenging in terms of the indictments.”
But he says the district is broke, and state taxpayers could be on the hook for a lot more if the Legislature doesn’t act. He also wants the Legislature to send millions of dollars to Flint to address the city’s drinking water crisis that started under a state takeover.
