Michigan Republicans met in Lansing this weekend to select delegates to the party’s presidential-nominating convention this summer. Controversies over who will go to Cleveland to choose the nominee were averted.
There was some controversy over whether national delegates selected at the state party convention would stick with their pledged candidates through multiple ballots, if it comes to that, at the nominating convention. Billionaire Donald Trump got the most delegates. Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Ohio Governor John Kasich split the remaining delegates.
Michigan GOP chairwoman Ronna Romney McDanielwill go to the Cleveland convention as a Trump delegate, because he won Michigan’s March 8th Republican primary.
“That’s my role, and I’m proud to support our voters."
But she did not promise to stick with Trump after a first ballot. Her uncle, 2012 Republican nominee Mitt Romney, is a vocal Trump critic.
