Michigan House Democrats

Today is the deadline for potential candidates to submit their names to be the replacement nominee for Democratic state lawmaker Julie Plawecki, who died last month.

It’s an unusual process for an unusual situation.  Julie Plawecki died suddenly while hiking with her daughters in Oregon.  She was 54 years old and serving her first time in the state House.  She was unopposed on the August primary ballot

It will be up to a committee of three people named by Democratic Party precinct delegates in her Wayne County district to sort through the names and determine a candidate to appear on the November ballot.

Two Republicans are running in the August primary to run for the seat in the Democratic-leaning district.
