Women who need mental health counseling, job coaching, and divorce support have one less local resource to turn to for assistance. The loss of several important grants forced the Women's Center of Southeastern Michigan to close it's doors last week.
Board Member Jennifer Cornell says their prime focus remains with clients they served. She says they are trying to figure out a way for clients to receive the critical assistance they need even if it can't be at the Women's Center.
Cornell says many peer organizations have offered assistance. They've had talks with the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University about space on campus for social work students to continue to meet with clients.
Over 14 years the center has served over 5,000 clients even if they couldn't pay.
