You may not know much about Peninsular Park in Ypsilanti, but a newly formed "friends" group hopes to change that.

Friends of Ypsilanti's Peninsular Park meets for the first time Wednesday evening.

Bob Krzewinski is a member of Ypsilanti's Parks and Recreation Commission, which established the group.  He says the group's goals will include organizing volunteer clean-ups at the park off Leforge Road.

"Implement the park master plan for that property, maybe look at increased police patrols,"Krzewinski says, "and also partner with groups or businesses to help spruce up the park, especially the apartment communities close by."

The city took possession of the park from Peninsular Paper in 1986, making it one of Ypsilanti's younger parks.

Friends of Ypsilanti's Peninsular Park meets at six Wednesday evening at Biggby Coffee at Washtenaw and Mansfield.
