The University of Michigan is looking for a new football coach, as Brady Hoke has been dismissed following a 5-7 season.
Hoke took Michigan to a Sugar Bowl win and 11-2 record in 2011, but the team’s record has gotten worse in each of the last three seasons.
Interim Athletic Director Jim Hackett says it was a difficult decision because Hoke excelled in some areas. "He's really earned the respect of all as being a value centered coach. We need more men like him in sport today. So you might ask how do you reconcile the tension between results and values," Hackett says.
Hackett says he’s looking for a coach that will win while maintaining the university’s values.
Former assistant football coach Mike DeBord will oversee the program until a coach is named, but won’t be a candidate for the job.
Hackett won’t share his timeline for hiring a new coach.
