Ann Arbor has a new police chief.
Jim Baird, who has been Ann Arbor's interim chief since July, was approved for the permanent position by council members on Tuesday.
Ann Arbor Mayor Christopher Taylor told WEMU that he has confidence in Baird to lead the city's police force during challenging times for law enforcement.
Baird has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Michigan State University.
