Hiring a new county administrator could take significantly longer than expected.

Washtenaw County 's Board of Commissionersdelayed hiring a new administrator Wednesday night.

Commissioner Conan Smithsaid the Board reviewed career assessments for the two remaining candidates, but ended the meeting before a vote was made.

Smith says prolonging the hire of a new administrator is not good for Washtenaw County. “We need strong, clear leadership," he says. "There are giant issues facing the county and I think the Board is doing the community and the institution a disservice by not settling down and making a decision.”

A decision could be three weeks or even six months from now, Smith says.
