The historic collection at the University of Michigan peony garden just inside the Nichols arboretum is about 99 percent in full bloom right now. The hot weather last week plus heavy rain last weekend pushed blooming forward to the peak period earlier than expected.
Many of the flowers in the massive display at the Nichols Arboretum in Ann Arbor's original plants are cultivated from one species that are rarely found for sale and are at risk of extinction. Six flower forms are represented in the Peony garden. Single, Japanese, Anemone, semi-double, double and bomb, blooming in shades of pink red and white.
A special garden concert planned for last weekend had to be rescheduled to this coming Sunday June12that 2 pm due to the rain.
