Eastern Michigan University held a farewell reception for interim president Donald Loppnow

Over fifty people attended the reception on campus.  Interim president Loppnow says, during the last six months, his focus was on student academics.  The former EMU professor said he doesn't regret taking the job even during a time when Eastern announced layoffs and other cuts.

"The one thing about being in a leadership role, especially a presidency of a large complex university is there are always projects or issues that surface that aren't always anticipated so we address them as they surface."

The former president of Northern State University in South Dakota, James Smith, will become president of Eastern on July 1st.
