As the coronavirus pandemic continues, forcing businesses to close and many people to stay home, local libraries are seeing a spike in demand for their services.
Before it closed down its physical branches earlier this month, the Ypsilanti District Library saw a 500-percent increase in the number of requests people made to check out items.
The library’s Community Relations Coordinator, Sam Killian, says now they’re busy expanding their online offerings to help homebound individuals.
“It’s kind of ranged from finding resources and adding things online people can look at to being able to renew library cards remotely, giving people access,” Killian says.
Killian says they’ve also made it easier to apply for a library card online, so more people can access their services.
