The Homegrown Festival takes place in Ann Arbor on Saturday, September 12th. Homegrown Festival volunteer Tina Stephen tells us about the theme of this year's event- the importance of pollinators in sustainable food production.
Overview
* The 8th annual HomeGrown Festival is part of Slow Food Huron Valleyand supports the numerous growers and food vendors that power the locavore movement in Washtenaw County.
* Pollinators are the theme of the 2015 event, focusing on the perils they face from traditional farming practices, their vital role in food production, and the importance of sustainable farming for promoting a healthy pollinator base.
* Tina Stephens, HomeGrown Festival Volunteer, has worked with the festival for several years, and she is knowledgeable about the role of pollinators in the food web and what actions are being taken in Washtenaw County to preserve habitat and encourage them.
