A desire to better meet the needs of parents has prompted Ypsilanti Community Schools to switch phone systems.

Superintendent Scott Menzel says the current school notification system isn't meeting expectations.  He says messages to parents sometimes arrive in minutes.

Other times it takes six hours for a message to be delivered.  Worse yet, some messages aren't delivered at all.

Menzel says parental communication is critical, so the district is terminating a multi-year contract with its current service provider and will switch to the School Messenger system over the summer.
