As it continues to stay cold, more and more homeless people are using shelters in Washtenaw County.

Numbers double at day shelters - they have gone up from 30 to about 70 people daily.

Human Services Policy Specialist for Washtenaw County, Laura Urteaga-Fuentes explains that plans are in place to comb the streets of Washtenaw County at the end of the month to offer their services to more homeless people.  The county wants to make sure everyone who needs help, actually gets it.

Currently, overnight shelters are providing a bed for about 75 people every night.  Many churches and local organizations have also joined forces to offer even more overnight shelters to the homeless until the end of March.
