Public safety technology in Washtenaw County is going to improve, according to Washtenaw County's Director of Emergency Services.

Marc Breckenridge says the ongoing tax levy will allow all facets of the county’s public safety operations to maintain current high standards and move into the next generation of technology.

"What it means is that text 911 and photographs and video imagery can all be processed, and there's a lot more to it, too. That can all be processed in the 911 center in real time, and that's a capability we don't currently have."

A 10-year, point two millage renewal won voter approval by a better than 3-1 margin yesterday.  The millage will allow the county to collect nearly $3 million in 2016.  Breckenridge says he is grateful for the ongoing community support.
