Voters in Washtenaw County are deciding a millage renewal today.
Local voters will be asked to approve a millage renewal to cover costs of the county-enhanced emergency communications system which allows different departments from across Washtenaw County to coordinate response to a reported crime or incident.
County SheriffJerry Clayton says money raised by the millage so far has been handled well and that the renewal is a "need" versus a "want" for county law enforcement.
"There's a 'what you want' versus 'what you need.' You know, if you have your household deal, you'll buy some of what you want, but you'll everything of what you need."
Sheriff Clayton says, if passed, the millage renewal will generate funds to pay for thecountywide emergency personnel communications system. That, in turn, allows them to arm the system with the latest technology for better citizen service.
