Local law enforcement is beefing up patrols and looking for impaired drivers now through early April.
Saying "bad decisions can stick with you for many years to come," the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department is stepping up enforcement and is on the lookout for impaired drivers in Ypsilanti Township. The increased enforcement is in effect now through April 6th, which coincides with the NCAA tournament, college spring breaks, and St Patrick's Day.
Nearly 2,200 people in Michigan were arrested for drunk driving last year during basketball tournament time.
The "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" crackdown is coordinated by the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, which says there are plenty alternate ways to get home after celebrating that don't include getting behind the wheel.
