The guidelines from the state Board of Education calls for schools to respect the gender identity of students.  Many Republicans are critical of the guidelines.

Mary Larkin is Program Coordinator for the LGBT Resource Center at Eastern Michigan University.  She says schools should treat students in a way that's in line with their gender identity.

The Board of Education wants the public to weigh in on the proposed guidelines.
