Eastern Michigan University is being criticized for spending too much money on athletics and not enough of academics.

The issue was addressed during public comment by EMU faculty at a Board of Regents meeting this afternoon.  They're accused of losing $52 million on athletics during the last two years, with a focus on football.

EMU accounting professor HowardBunsissays the university is diverting money from what they are there to do, which is educate students, to an athletic venture that is not succeeding.  During the same public comment, some student-athletes as well as alumni shared their positive experiences with sports at EMU.

Interim president DonaldLoppnow says the university is currently looking at its entire budget, which includes intercollegiate athletics and will prioritize it for the new fiscal year.
