The suspect in three separate racist vandalism incidents at Eastern Michigan University plead guilty Monday to three counts of malicious destruction of property.
When asked by the judge in Washtenaw County Circuit Court if he did the damage to the three buildings in question on the EMU campus, Eddie Curlin responded "yes."
The charges come from a hate message found spray-painted on an exterior wall at Eastern's King Hall in September of 2016. A month later, a racist message was discovered spray-painted on an exterior wall at Ford Hall, and a third incident last spring in which a racist message was found in a men's restroom stall at Sherzer Hall.
The 29 year-old, who was already in jail on unrelated charges, acted as an informant to police in the racist vandalism case, hoping to have the original charges against him dropped so he could return to Eastern Michigan University as a student.
