It is a borrowed philosophy but one that guided Ken Fischer's career and leadership vision. For 30 years, Ken served as President of the University Musical Society. "Everybody In, Nobody Out" is his new book. That management ideology extended to the manner in which he guided expansion of UMS programming. In the end, we find that performance arts not only entertain but help bridge divides in cultural, racial, economic, and educational divides. WEMU's David Fair caught up with Ken to discuss the issues and today's release of his book.
"Everbody In, Nobody Out" is published by University of Michigan Press and is now officially on sale. Ken Fischer became the sixth president of the University Musical Society (UMS) at the University of Michigan in 1987 and retired in 2017. 30 years of building relationships throughout the world brought home to Ann Arbor a diverse range of performance programming and a wealth of stories. The effort to build programming diversity was a three-decade long process and, given today's social climate, is as important as ever. Ken takes you start to finish with an eye towards building more int he future in this conversation with 89.1 WEMU's David Fair.
