Ford Lake in Ypsilanti Township is likely much better than its reputation. Measures have been taken to combat algae blooms, clean-up pollution and make it a destination site for water recreation. This week, we  talk to Ypsilanti Township’s Director of Residential Services Jeff Allen.

Overview

Ford Lake just completed over a million dollars in upgrades including a new row hub, fishing and recreation docks, and an extensive non-motorized trail system.

Recently, much attention has been given to the economic disparity between the Ypsilanti region and the Ann Arbor area (with emphasis on creating more affordable housing in Ann Arbor and more market rate housing in Ypsi); today the lake is one of the best opportunities for higher end development in Ypsilanti Township.

Jeff Allen, Director of Residential Services for Ypsilanti Township, lives and works on Ford Lake, and he says the perception that the lake is a polluted dumping ground ought to be a thing of the past.
