Ann Arbor City Council Monday night will approve city administrator Steve Powers proposed $98 million general fund budget for next fiscal year.

First however council members will consider a variety of amendments.

Council member Jane Lumm thinks the city should do more than add three positions in police services, so she will request a total of five new positions.  Lumm will also again propose the return of street-side leaf and christmas tree pick-ups.

Council Member Christopher Taylor is introducing a proposal for a community facing energy efficiency program.

Chuck Warpehoski is urging for additional funding for substance abuse treatment and prevention.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
