Commuter Challenge Passes Mid-Point

Commuter Challenge
Commuter Challenge

Over 75-thousand miles of alternative commuting have already been logged by more than 200 teams participating in the Commuter Challenge.

Hilary Braley is doing the challenge for the first time primarily by car-pooling with her husband who also works in downtown Ann Arbor.  TheWashtenaw Friend of the Court Modification Coordinator is looking forward to expanding her alternative commuting when she's not eight months pregnant.  The couple also just bought a house in Ypsilanti Township so she thinks riding the bus will become a better option with the passage of the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority's millage and expanded service.

Braley was encouraged to participate this year by co-worker Shari Gordon who rides her bike to work from spring through fall.  Gordon is a Commuter Challenge success story since her biking started 6 or 7 years ago when she first participated.  The Friend of the Court team is one of the leaders among workplaces with 50 to 99 employees.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
