As more and more roundabouts are added on local roadways, Washtenaw County officials want to make sure motorists are clear on how to use them.

Traffic roundabouts were designed to slow the speed of vehicles to increase capacity and improve safety.  The WashtenawCounty Sheriff's Office put out a reminder on how they are best used to increase safety and awareness for motorists.

Reminder number one is to slow down when approaching a roundabout.  Choose the appropriate lane which corresponds with your intended destination, then slow down when you approach the yield sign.

Here's the part most people may not realize--officials say don't stop or change lanes as you enter or once you are in a roundabout.

And, of course, always yieldto pedestrians and bicyclists as you approach the crosswalk.
