Washtenaw County drivers will soon get have another roundabout to negotiate. Its aim is to help improve safety on the road.
The single-lane roundabout will be installed at the intersection of Whittaker and Merritt roads in Ypsilanti Township. Construction began Monday and the project is expected to be completed by mid-August.
Mark McCulloch, who is a senior project manager with the Washtenaw County Road Commission, explains why it's needed.
“It is on a curve where it intercepts with Merritt Road and because of speed limits on Whittaker Road, cars have tendency to run-off the road after traveling through that intersection.”
