Restaurants were one of the first and hardest hit by our current health crisis and looks like they will remain closed for a while. WEMU's Lisa Barry talks with John Reyes of Eater.com about how Washtenaw County restaurants are evolving during the current health crisis and what they are doing to try and still serve customers and maintain their bottom line.
Based on Governor Whitmer's executive order, "places of public occassion" (restaurants, bars, breweries, etc.) will remain closed to occupancy until May 28th. Therefore, these establishments can only do carryout or takeout orders. Yet, some restaurants, like Weber's in Ann Arbor, are staying afloat by acting as grocery stores.
Other Washtenaw County restaurants, bars, and distilleries have petitioned to allow to-go cocktails. This may happen, considering that a number of states have loosened restrictions on selling such products. Ann Arbor Distilling Company will be doing curbside pick-up for liquor, while the Mani Osteria group in Ann Arbor is offering cocktail kits complete with ingredients and instructions.
This may prove useful for special occasions, especially that Mother's Day is coming up this weekend.
