Low voter turnout expected in Washtenaw County
Millages for Safety Services are on the ballot in Augusta, Dexter, Northfield, Superior, and York Townships. Manchester has a question about issuing bonds for a bridge, and the schools have a tech bond and operating millage question. There are also contested races for state, county, and local elected officials.
Still, Washtenaw County Elections Director Ed Golembiewskibelieves less than one-fifth of eligible voters in most communities will go to the polls. He says, "Across the county, we'll probably see something around 16 or 17 percent. Though in the city of Ann Arbor I would imagine that we will see something over 20 percent as we have some highly contested primaries there."
Golembiewski says overall very few Washtenaw County communities have only the state-wide ballot question about the personal property tax and state level candidates to consider.
Polls are open from seven in the morning until eight tonight.
