A racial slur found spray-painted outside an Eastern Michigan University building was not an isolated incident.
Eastern Michigan University officials have revealed a second racial slur was discovered written on a wall in a stairwell of Wise Hall and quickly removed. That follows the early Tuesday morning discovery of a racial slur spray-painted on an exterior wall of King Hall, also on the EMU campus.
EMU President James Smith issued an update on the situation late Wednesday afternoon saying the "full resources" of the University are being directed to identifying who is responsible for the racial slurs and vowing to bring them to justice. A $2,500 reward is also now being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the person or people are responsible.
President Smith and EMU Police Chief Robert Heighessay they are committed to increasing police presence on campus as the investigation continues into who created the racial slurs targeting the black community.
No date has been announced yet for a campus community forum to talk about the incidents and what action could be taken relating to issues of race and diversity at EMU. It is expected to happen in early October.
