Varsity football at Ypsilanti Community Schools will now be lead by former University of Michigan running back coach Fred Jackson.

The announcement was made Wednesday by YCS  superintendent Ben Edmondson.

Jackson spent 24 years as an assistant coach at the U of M. He says he wants to raise Ypsilanti’s football program to the level of recognition the district’s basketball program has.

Jackson says,

“To some of the things that have happened great here in the past and to get this football program side by side with the basketball program. Coach Brooks has done a [great] job, throughout this country people know about [it]. So I just want to try to get it back.”

Also announced at Wednesday's press conference is the inclusion of former UM head coach Lloyd Carr and former Eastern Michigan University head coach Ron English as unpaid consultants to Jackson.
