The University of Michigan’s non-partisan group Turn Up Turnout is taking part in a national election registration drive called Ten Tuesdays.
It started September 1st, and from now until the November 3rd general election, Turn Up Turnout will remind students on Tuesdays to register to vote. Edie Goldenberg is the founder of the group and says the social media registration drive may reach more than students.
Edie Goldenberg: I hope that our students are going to be taking these messages home and helping their families and their friends, whether they are students of ours or not, to take the steps that they need.
Goldenberg says, due to COVID-19, the Ten Tuesdays campaign encourages students to vote absentee and to mail their ballots as soon as possible. Michigan now allows voter registration on Election Day.
