Ann Arbor 3rd Ward City Council Candidates Forum

The League of Women Voters of the Ann Arbor Areahosted candidate forums for those running in contested races for Ann Arbor City Council. In the 3rd Ward,  Stephen Kunselman is facing a challenge from someone who helped get him elected four years ago.

As WEMU's Andrew Cluley reports, Sam Devarti is challenging the Incumbent for the seat, but the forum revealed that the candidates are in agreement on many of the issues.

Incumbent Ann Arbor City Council member Stephen Kunselman is facing a challenge in this fall's election from Sam DeVarti of the Mixed Use Party.  The third ward candidates participated in the League of Women Voters candidate forum last night.  Kunselman says the forum showed the two candidates have similar thoughts on important issues, but his experience as a councilman and Sumpter Township Environmental Planner make him better suited to serve.  DeVarti says city council needs an independent voice because local government has become factionalized , and isn't working well.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
