Candidate Info: Martin Church, Senate District 18

WEMU offered the opportunity for any candidate appearing on a ballot in Washtenaw County in the 2018 general election to submit a campaign message directly to our audience. Martin Church is running for Senate District 18 as an independent.  What follows are the audio and remarks the candidate wanted to share with you.

It's time for Church in the Michigan Senate.

No this is not your favorite NPR game show Wait, Wait, Don't tell me, and I am not Peter Sagel.

I'm Martin Church from Ypsilanti and I would like to represent the communities of Ypsilanti, Ann arbor, Pittsfield Salem, Superior, Augusta, Saline, and Northern Milan as part of the Michigan Senate.

I am running with the purpose of returning the programs we need from being state driven to local community control. This means increasing the state revenue sharing to the required amounts we agreed to many years ago. I believe we need to return education back to our families and our local communities. To ask our local faith and worship centers to rejoin our communities and provide social support to improve our communities with the same social programs they started and bureaucrats tried to take over.

I believe we need to build communities based upon families in which both parents are in charge and have a say on the development of their children. With the state and local organizations only stepping in when there is an actual problem.

I believe in reducing the tax burdens so new businesses can be started and grown without seeking investment from the state in the form of what has been called corporate welfare. This includes reducing personal income taxes on families.

I believe we can embrace new technology to improve our education, and allow lifelong learning without increasing our taxes. This means changing from our current method of warehousing students to a home based solution which allows students to learn at their own pace.

This also includes employment opportunities for our young adults which incorporates internships and co-ops.

We need to make changes in our laws that encourages businesses from eliminating our youth from employment by the use of selfservice technology.

The world around us is changing new technology is coming, as a graduate with a masters in information security and over 25 years in the it community, I believe I have the knowledge for protecting individual data and encourage economic growth. So on November 6 remember it is time for Church in the Michigan Senate, returning the roles to our faith centers, families and local communities Vote for Martin Church for Michigan Senate district 18.
