Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department Investigates Webster Township Drowning

Wikimedia

UPDATE: At 8:28am
A relative of a man who died after being pulled from a lake in Washtenaw County says the man had wandered away from a picnic.

The Ann Arbor News reports 23-year-old DaShaun Jackson, who was cognitively impaired, was pronounced dead at University of Michigan Hospital after being pulled from Independence Lake in Webster Township on Saturday. The sheriff's department says it took search crews about 45 minutes to find him.

The newspaper says the Detroit man was with his cousin, Wendy Harmon of Ypsilanti, and other relatives. Harmon says she discovered Jackson was missing after she went to a car to get food. She says she initially worried he might have been lost in the park.
