Michigan Senate Says Landlords Can Prohibit Tenants From Using Medical Marijuana

Tenants would have to get permission from their landlord to smoke or grow medical marijuana inside rental units. That’s under a bill approved today (Tue.) by the state Senate.

State Senator Rebekah Warren of Ann Arbor was one of three Democrats who voted against the measure.

“All we did was vote to say that medical marijuana patients that have a legal card and a prescription can’t take their medicine at home. And it’s wrong.”

Supporters of the bill say smoking and growing marijuana can result in serious damage to property.

The legislation now goes to the state House – where it will need a three-fourths majority to pass.
