The board overseeing the state’s new medical marijuana program meets for the first time today.
The new program was adopted by the Legislature to fix problems and confusion after Michigan voters approved medical marijuana in 2008.
Andrew Brisbo heads the agency that oversees the new medical marijuana program. He says the board will make sure patients, growers, and retailers follow the rules.
“So they have the responsibility to issue licenses and to levy discipline against licensees, so on and so forth”
The board will start issuing permits and licenses next year. Most of the first meeting will be devoted to hearing from members of the public who have an interest in the issue.
