Governor Gretchen Whitmer is blasting the Trump administration’s refusal to allow an additional Affordable Care Act enrollment period.  It would be for people who’ve lost other insurance coverage during the COVID-19 crisis.  We have more Rick Pluta.

Whitmer and 11 other governors sent a letter to the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services seeking the special enrollment period.  The request was denied, as was a request to reconsider.  In a statement, Whitmer called that decision “cruel and inexplicable.”  She said the decision will have a devastating effect on patients and their families, as well as efforts to steer the country toward an economic recovery.

In a letter dated September 1st, Administrator Seema Verma said the Trump administration has taken other actions to ensure help for people facing COVID-19 or possible infection.  President Donald Trump has been a fierce critic of the ACA, which is also known as Obamacare.
