Ann Arbor’s city council will discuss Monday night placing an affordable housing millage proposal on the November general election ballot.
The city is considering a 20-year millage to help build 140 affordable housing units a year. The one mill is expected to generate about $6.5 million during its first year. City Council Member Elizabeth Nelson from the fourth ward says properties on West Washington Street and Catherine Street are being considered by the city for potential affordable housing sites.
Council Member Elizabeth Nelson: The revenue from this millage could be used to support exciting new developments that have already been evaluated or are sort of in the pipeline from our housing commission.
A recent study commissioned by the Partners for Affordable Housingrevealed that 77% of voters in Ann Arbor would support an affordable housing millage.
