U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Dingell from the 12th District has requested a federal investigation after some tenants at Sycamore Meadows apartments in Superior Township received eviction notices.
Congresswoman Dingellasked the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Developmentto explain why the tenants received eviction notices after a June 4th block party that prompted complaints to the management. In a letter sent to HUD, the congresswoman pointed out that some of the tenants who received notices did not take part in the event held at Sycamore Meadows.
Congresswoman Dingell: People were outside their homes because of the high heat that we had been experiencing. And their homes are not comfortable, their air conditioning is not working.
Congresswoman Dingell is asking for the investigation because Sycamore Meadows is subsidized by HUD. Meanwhile, Dingell also plans to look into allegations made by Sycamore Meadows residents regarding police intimidation in that area. Harold Gonzales has family that lives at the apartment complex.
Harold Gonzales: The police over-police, and the management, every time it happens, they’re in cahoots with the management.
We reached out to Sycamore Meadows for comment but did not hear back from them.
