Governor Gretchen Whitmerspent at least part of her weekend working on the Democratic response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address.  She will deliver the response Tuesday evening following the President’s speech.  Rick Pluta has more.

Governor Whitmer was selected by congressional Democratic leaders to deliver the response.  Whitmer says it shows that Michigan will likely be pivotal in determining the outcome of the November presidential election.  And she says messages that resonate with Michiganders will also appeal to working class voters across the country.

“So, I think everyone knows how important Michigan is in this election.”

Whitmer has not endorsed any of the candidates running in the Democratic primary.  But she says she’ll campaign hard for whichever candidate wins the nomination.  Trump won Michigan in 2016 ago by just a fraction of a percentage point.
