John Petelka
John Petelka
John Petelka, or JP as we call him, fell for radio as a preteen. He declared in elementary school that he wanted to own a small town radio station.
As a young adult John didn't believe radio was a legitimate career. He went to Central Michigan and graduated with a management degree. In the following ten years John worked a series of entry level bank jobs, and earned a Personal Financial Planning certificate from Oakland University.
Upon entering middle age, John decided to do what he always wanted. He matriculated at Specs Howard School of Broadcasting. After graduating John worked for WAAM Ann Arbor as a news anchor and reporter. Later he spent five years at WSDS country radio as a deejay, account executive, and sports board operator.
In 2005 JP began at WEMU as a sport board operator. Over the years he has expanded into many more roles.
John Bommarito
John Bommarito
My background is almost entirely music industry related. I have worked record retail, record wholesale, radio and been a mobile disc jockey as the four primary jobs I've held since 1985. Sure, there were a few other things in there - an assistant to a financial advisor, management level banker (hired during the pandemic with no banking experience), I cleaned a tennis club and couple of banks. The true version of myself is involved in music somehow. Since I don't play any instruments, my best outlet is to play other people's music and maybe inspire you to support that artist.
Kathy Mattea
Kathy Mattea
Born and raised in Kanawha County, Mattea lived in West Virginia until the late 1970s, when she moved to Nashville to pursue her dreams of a career in music. She signed her first record deal in 1983 and charted with a pair of early releases, but it was her acclaimed third album, Walk The Way The Wind Blows, that truly signaled her arrival as a star.
Rob Rubick
Rob Rubick

Rubick’s broadcasting resume includes analyst work for Grand Valley State University, Detroit Fury and MHSAA game broadcasts. He has also provided studio analysis for Fox Sports Net’s and WXYZ’s Lions coverage,
Benjamin Purper
Benjamin Purper
Benjamin Purper came to KCBX in May of 2021 from California’s Inland Empire, where he spent three years as a reporter and Morning Edition host at KVCR in San Bernardino. Dozens of his stories have aired on KQED’s California Report, and his work has broadcast on NPR's news magazines, as well. In addition to radio, Ben has worked as a newspaper reporter and freelance writer.
