Tobacco Racketeering Case Now in Judge's Hands
A nine-month-long federal racketeering trial involving the tobacco industry ended Thursday. Judge Gladys Kessler now will decide whether big tobacco comanies conspired to hide the dangers of smoking. In closing arguments, Justice Department lawyers asked the judge to impose marketing restrictions on cigarettes.

Pakistani Taliban Head Claims Hand In Attack
The head of the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the deadly attack yesterday on a police academy in the city of Lahore. Baitullah Mehsud said the attack was a retaliation for U.S. missile strikes against militants along the Afghan border.

British Judges Hand Out Stiff Sentences For Rioters
In the aftermath of the riots that spread through England, judges are handing out stiff sentences to those who took part. In one case, a man was given a four-year sentence just for drunkenly posting an invitation to riot on a Facebook page. There's no evidence anyone, other than the police, acted on his post.
