A lot of folks are about to hit the road or the airports with Christmas right around the corner. Gregory Keoleian is the director of the U-M's Center for Sustainable Systems. He joined WEMU's David Fair to talk about how best to minimize our carbon footprint and still get to where we want to go.

#OTGYpsi: Ypsilanti's Juneteenth celebration returns for its sixth year
Juneteenth serves as both a celebration of freedom and a reflection on the ongoing pursuit of equality. And in Ypsilanti, that celebration has grown into a three-day community event featuring live entertainment, food, family activities, and cultural programming. The sixth annual Juneteenth celebration will take place June 19th through the 21st at the University Bank parking lot in downtown Ypsi. Lee Van Roth discussed the big event with its organizer and MC, Gordon "Big" Dooley.

Issues of the Environment: Michigan Sen. Elissa Slotkin continues to work on better PFAS protections
PFAS. Few environmental issues have affected Michigan communities more directly than these so-called "forever chemicals," which have been found in our waterways, groundwater, and drinking water systems across the state. In her first segment as host of "Issues of the Environment," Rebekah Warren was joined by U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin of Michigan. They discussed what local and national actions have been taken and what is needed to prevent further PFAS contamination.

Washtenaw United: Fisher House Michigan serves as 'home away from home' for Washtenaw County veterans
Military veterans and their families can face many difficulties after serving our country. Anything from housing to proper physical and mental health care can sometimes be out of reach. Fisher House Michigan in Ann Arbor is a resource for these veterans. Decky Alexander talked about Fisher House's work with its executive director, Kate Melcher.

The city of Ann Arbor has an ambitious environmental goal. It wants to utilize grant money to launch a plan to intends to decarbonize the Bryant neighborhood on the city's southeast side. Ann Arbor sustainability and innovations manager, Missy Stults, joined WEMU's David Fair to discuss where the process stands and what it will take to become successful.

Ann Arbor voters to decide Community Climate Action ballot proposal November 8th
Ann Arbor voters will decide a long-term tax question in the mid-term elections. The city is asking for a 20-year, one-mill tax increase to fund its Community Climate Action plan. It’s a lofty ask, and, as WEMU’s Cathy Shafran reports, not everyone is on board.
