'How Low Can You Go' Winner: Dal, Chilean Style
Valerie Gaino, who lives in Pichilemu, Chile, submitted a recipe for dal, an Indian dish. She learned how to cook it six years ago from a fellow traveler from Tasmania. "I've fed many hungry surfers from all different countries with this dish ... nobody has ever complained," Gaino says.

#OTGYpsi: Latinx Teen Empowerment Group helps kids find support and community
The Latinx Teen Empowerment Group at Ypsilanti Community High School was created to give Latinx teens mental health support and to help them address other challenges as they adapt to a new language and a new culture. Issues of the Environment: Washtenaw County's weatherization program receives bigger budget and is ready to serve more residents
We’ve experienced some bitter cold of late. That probably means your furnace is running 24 hours a day, and if you aren’t properly insulated, you are going to have a rather high heating bill. Energy efficiency and proper weatherization can make a huge difference, and Washtenaw County has an assistance program that can make an assessment and do the repairs completely free for qualified residents. WEMU's David Fair talked it over with Washtenaw County Housing Program Supervisor Aaron Kraft.

1st Friday Focus on the Environment: Incoming Speaker of the House lays out Michigan's environmental agenda
When the state Legislature reconvenes in January, Democrats will be in control of both chambers for the first time in 40 years. Democrats have a laundry list of priorities in the new legislative session. We’re going to take an initial look at what environmental priorities are on that list in the final edition of 1st Friday for 2022. WEMU’s David Fair and Michigan League of Conservation Voters executive director, Lisa Wozniak, went straight to the top of the incoming leadership ladder. Detroit Democrat, Joe Tate, will discuss environmental priorities as he prepares to become the next Speaker of the House in Lansing.

1st Friday Focus on the Environment: Planning more equitable investment in Michigan's new budget proposal
The Michigan Legislature is putting final touches on its budget proposal, and environmental issues are prominent. This is the first time in 40 years both chambers and the governor’s office are led by Democrats at the same time. WEMU's David Fair and Michigan League of Conversation Voters executive director, Lisa Wozniak, went straight to the source. State Senator Sarah Anthony chairs the Appropriations Committee. They discussed planned funding for environmental protections and more equitable distribution of funding for environmental and social justice programs.
