Washtenaw United: Youth Arts Alliance helps young folks create community and improve lives
Mental health among our youngsters has been a growing concern, particularly since the pandemic. Art is one of the outlets that allows for self-expression and communication. The Youth Arts Alliance is an Ypsilanti-based organization working throughout Michigan. It's making a difference in the overall well-being of its participants while building community. #OTGYpsi: EMU library undergoes major renovation, Oral History program to get its own center
Eastern Michigan University's Halle Library is receiving a makeover thanks to a donation from its namesake. With this move, the university's oral history program will soon grow into a center of its own. EMU Archivist and Library Department head, Alexis Braun Marks, joined Rylee Barnsdale for a conversation on what this will mean to the school and community-at-large.

Middle schoolers in the Ypsilanti Community Schools are in a new building this year. It’s actually a school that was shut down when Ypsilanti and Willow Run Schools merged. Rylee Barnsdale sat down with YCS Middle School Principal Charles Davis to learn more about the educational and community opportunities that stem from the change this academic year.

Washtenaw United: EMU's Swoop's Food Pantry working to help students facing food insecurity
The price of food is forcing some people to make some difficult decisions. The level of food insecurity among college students is increasing dramatically. Swoop's Food Pantry at Eastern Michigan University has seen the level of service it provides increase in recent years, and the projection is that the need will only grow. WEMU's David Fair talked with Swoop’s Pantry graduate assistant Colton Ray about what it takes and what it’s going to take to help a growing number of EMU students.

Washtenaw United: Ozone House in Ypsilanti
Diversity, equity and inclusion programs are under fire from the new federal administration. The impacts reverberate through the community in a variety of ways. Ypsilanti-based Ozone House has been empowering young people in the community for 55 years. There have been challenges before and there will be more in the future. WEMU's David Fair spoke with Outreach and Pride Zone coordinator Brie Nikora about overcoming the challenges in the effort to continue establishing equity and inclusivity for runaway, homeless, and high-risk youth.

Washtenaw United: Building equity and opportunity through literacy
Efforts to combat income inequity and social justice have to have a strong foundational place from which to work. Literacy is right at the top of the list. Washtenaw Literacy is under new leadership, and it comes at a time when non-profits are struggling to find the financial support to maximize community impact. #OTGYpsi: Ypsilanti’s Family Empowerment Program marks 15 years of service
Ypsilanti's Family Empowerment Program (FEP), which is based out of Eastern Michigan University's Engage@EMU office, provides supportive housing services to residents of low-income public housing communities. Now in its 15th year, the program serves about 900 individuals across all Ypsilanti Housing Commission communities. Lee Van Roth discussed the program's accomplishments with FEP's resident service coordinator, Lamar Thomas.
