Issues of the Environment: Combating greenhouse gas emissions in Michigan Medicine's surgical rooms
When you, or a loved one, has to have surgery, environmental protections are probably the last thing on your mind. But it is an issue that needs to be addressed. As much as 8-10% of all greenhouse gas emissions in the country emanate from medical facilities. Michigan Medicine is looking to significantly cut down its impacts while continuing to providing crucial care services. Dr. George Mashour is chair of Michigan Medicine's anesthesiology department, and he joined WEMU's David Fair to explain the process of identifying and implementing solutions.

Washtenaw United: UM and WISD partner to create equity in early childhood education by getting kids moving
The earlier in age we begin addressing societal and educational inequity, the better the future results will be. There is a partnership between The University of Michigan School of Kinesiology Childhood Disparities Research Laboratory (UMCDRL) and the Washtenaw Intermediate School District that is working to provide equitable access to structured physical activity to children inside the classroom. Meet the new host of "Issues of the Environment." You know her as a former state Representative and former state Senator from Ann Arbor. Rebekah Warren served as chair of the House Great Lakes and Environment committee and in a number of other environmental leadership roles. Since leaving office, Rebekah has founded, and is President and CEO of Adaptive Strategics, which puts environmental issues front and center. Now, she will steward the conversations about our environment, right here in Washtenaw County.
