Obama Visits Michigan, Wins Edwards' Support
Barack Obama hit the campaign trail in Michigan on Wednesday. That's where former rival John Edwards endorsed Obama for the Democratic Party's nominee. It was the Illinois senator's first campaign visit to Michigan this year. Obama didn't compete in the state's January primary that was outlawed by the National Democratic Party for violating party rules.

Obama Promises To Slow U.S. Arms Flow To Mexico
President Obama is promising new help for Mexico in its battle with drug traffickers. The President met one-on-one Thursday with his Mexican counterpart, Felipe Calderon. Their meeting marked the beginning of a four-day Latin American tour, in which Obama is hoping to show that the U.S. is once again paying attention to the region.

Gaza Conflict May Affect Obama Peacekeeping Vow
The conflict in Gaza presents a challenge for the incoming Obama administration, which already was facing a packed Middle East agenda. Leslie Gelb tells Steve Inskeep that the question now is whether the situation in Gaza will make it harder for President-elect Barack Obama to keep his campaign promises of active peacemaking between the Israelis and Palestinians. Gelb is a former state and defense department official and president emeritus of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Irish To Vote On Stricter Budgetary Rules
The people of Ireland vote Thursday on a European treaty that imposes strict budgetary rules on eurozone nations. It's triggered a heated debate in Ireland about whether austerity measures are working. The Irish government says rejecting the treaty would cut Ireland off from future EU bailout funds, and isolate the nation.
